Sailing Concept
Sailing Concept is a project developed during my period in Icona Design Group, it aims to bring new ideas in terms of design in the sailing industry. With the upcoming foiling technology, this concept wants to give speed while being very comfortable to sail.
I BEGAN THE STUDY OF THIS BOAT TRYING TO IDENTIFY SOME KEY ELEMENTS IN THE ICONA LOGO AND APPLYING THEM TO THE DESIGN OF THE HULL.
THE SAILING BOAT IS IN THIS WAY IDENTIFIABLE BY A LONG GLASS WINDOW ON THE TOP AND A VERY WARM AND SPACIOUS DECK, EVERYTHING IS FINALLY CONNECTED BY THE RED COLOR.
The side view is typically inspired by a sea creature, recognizable from the foils and the rudder that could remind fins.
DURING THE DESIGN PROCESS OF THE HULL I HAVE ENHANCED AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE THE FEELING OF SPEED AND FLUIDITY DONE BY DRAWING ACCELERATED LINES THAT STRETCH TOWARDS THE BACK OF THE BOAT. ACCENTUATING AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE BOW AND THE JIB ENDORSED THE FEELING OF SPEED.
Developed thinking more about performances than liveability, this concept can easily accommodate 6 people plus two skippers. In case of a regatta, the main table can be folded and transformed into another double bed, increasing the capacity to 10.
THE SAILING BOAT HAS TWO BATHROOM THAT CAN BE ACCESSIBLE FROM EVERYWHERE OR IN A MORE CRUISING AIMED LAYOUT ONE OF THEM CAN BE ACCESSIBLE ONLY FROM THE MAIN BEDROOM.
While the "Sailing Concept" remains a pure study of shapes and lines, the fixed foils confer to the boat a sexy and attractive silhouette and avoid difficult manoeuvres during the sailing. Although in a production series the foils could become adjustable.
FROM THE VIEW BELOW WE CAN SEE HOW THE WINDOWS FLOWS FROM THE BOW TO THE STERN, FRAMED BY THE "RED RIBBONS" THAT ARRIVE TO THE BACK.
THE MIDDLE OF THE DECK CAN LIFT OCCASIONALLY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TWO BENCHES TO BECOME A SUITABLE TABLE.
The design includes one single line that starts from one foil, follow the side of the boat, pass through the back and join the foil on the other side.
THIS FEATURE ADD CONTINUITY AND ELEGANCE TO THE SAILING BOAT AND CREATES A VISUAL HARMONY THAT IS NOT UNDERSTANDABLE AT FIRST SIGHT.
