Tramway
Autonomous Tramway
The idea took place when I looked at the beautiful and iconic vintage tramways of Milan.
I wanted to reimagine this icon, keeping the key elements that make it immediately recognizable but with a newer and fresher design.
IN THE CITY OF MILAN MORE MODERN TRAMWAYS ALREADY EXIST, BUT THEY ARE ALL COMPOSED BY MULTIPLE WAGONS.
THIS ARCHITECTURE HAS ITS PROS BUT ALSO LIMITATIONS AND CONSTRAINT, IT CANNOT PASS THROUGH ALL THE STREETS AND MOST IMPORTANTLY IT DOES NOT HAVE THE SAME AESTHETICALLY GOOD LOOK THAN THE OLD ONES.
I came to the conclusion that the new autonomous tramway had to have only one wagon to be faithful to the old design.
THIS NEW CONCEPTION, COMPARED TO THE MULTI WAGON, THINKS THE NEW TRAMWAY TO BE SMALL AND AGILE WITHOUT DISTURBING THE VIEW WHILE PASSING IN FRONT OF MONUMENTS OR GARDENS.
With the technology developed in the last past years, this tramway is conceived to be driven autonomously with the capability of perceiving pedestrian by means of cameras places around it.
AUTONOMOUS DRIVING ALREADY EXISTS AND IS NOW APPLIED ON SUBWAYS AND TRAINS. VERY LIKELY THE NEXT STEP BEFORE CARS ARE TRAMWAYS, THIS IS CAUSED BY THEIR NATURE TO BE ALREADY ON RAILS AND SO TO HAVE A FIXED ROUTE.
Although, thanks to autonomous driving, lighting is not really needed for the tramway to see, is necessary anyway to have signals to be visible during the night to other drivers and pedestrians.
THE DESIGN OF THE CIRCULAR LIGHT TAKE A BIG INSPIRATION FROM THE VINTAGE VERSION, PROJECTING IT INTO THE FUTURE. THE FRONT OF THIS FIRST VERSION IS CHARACTERIZED BY THE LOGO OF "ATM" MERGED IN A ATTRACTIVE WAY INTO THE WINDSCREEN.
